My role as your therapist is not to diagnose you or tell you what to do.
However, together we can work on ways in which you can better understand your difficulties, the possible root causes and find ways to bring about positive changes to your life.
In our work together you may discover unhelpful thoughts or behavioural patterns in yourself that you would like to change. You may also identify thoughts and behaviours in others that are causing you distress.
In and out of sessions, I may suggest different resources, homework tasks, techniques or strategies to help you gain insight into your difficulties and enhance your self-awareness. This in turn may help you manage your difficulties, achieve new goals and challenges, develop healthy coping mechanisms, develop or strength new skills and stay motivated.
HOW I WORK AS AN EATING DISORDER COACH/PSYCHOTHERAIST
Working with eating issues requires a more practical hands on approach.
I will work holistically with you to deal with issues such as habit, body image problems, food addictions, unhelpful thoughts, emotions, self-worth, mental health issues and nutritional issues that may be getting in the way of your health and wellbeing.
As part of your treatment plan I will provide psychoeducation in the following areas: the psychology of diets and why they do not work; the physical risks and health risks of dieting; as well as the emotional effects of dieting.
As part of your treatment plan I will work towards stabilising you physically as well as identifying unhelpful thoughts and emotions that are keeping you stuck. I will suggest different resources, will provide tools, coping strategies, techniques and homework to help you gain insight into your difficulties. This in turn will help you to make the appropriate changes.
In addition to the above, as part of my 'coaching role' I can structure virtual or phone session which include going with you to the supermarket; preparation of shopping lists, prep or cook a meal or sit with you while you eat a meal for support as part of our allocated session time together.

MY PHILOSOPHY
My philosophy is that when you gain understanding it brings knowledge and with knowledge comes the power to make changes. I believe that you can make the changes if you have the right conditions in which to do so.
